Moharram Bek police station – Alexandria: Beating and physical assault to a father and five women, threatening one of them with rape. A new torture incident in Alexandria, this time committed by Mohamed Omran, chief of intelligence at Moharram Bek police station. Persecuted and aggressed by Omran a whole family is threatened by displacement and homelessness. The father, in his seventies and the mother in her sixties and a daughter in her fourth decade were beaten and dragged along the street by more than 15 informers and three intelligence officers led by Mohamed Ragab before they are taken to the police station and falsely accused of resisting authorities.

Although 16 days have passed since the court order to release Ahmed Doma, he has disappeared from the Arish II police station. When his friends asked about his whereabouts they were told that he is being held at SSI headquarters. Blogger Ahmed Doma, civilian, was tried in front a military court and sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of 2000 LE upon his return from Gaza. He had gone to Gaza during the war in solidarity with the Palestinians and had contributed to relief and rescue work. Lawyers of the blogger had submitted a complaint to the public prosecutor against a number of officers and draftees at Khalifeh police station accusing them of torturing Doma physically and psychologically, where he was insulted, beaten by a club, and suspended for long periods of time resulting in injuries and bruises in his body in addition to a possible fracture of his left arm. The complaint requested that Doma be referred to forensic examination.

12.30 gathering in front of the office of the public prosecutor to demand the release of Ahmed Doma and Ahmed Kamal and the investigation of the torture of Doma in Arish II police station.

Naglaa Shehata Abd Rabbo, housewife and mother of child Adham Sameh Fouad Allam, 4 years old, submits a complaint to the public attorney on the 18th of February regarding the arrest and incarceration of her child with criminals by the chief intelligence officer to force his father to collaborate with the police station as an informer. The public attorney of Tanta referred the complaint to the public prosecution for investigation.
22 February
Announcement of a previously secret visit of a CSIS officer to Egypt after a federal committee in Canada exposed the details of a secret report regarding the torture of Ahmed El Maati, a Canadian citizen of Egyptian origin and other Canadian citizens of Arab origin. A report on the website of Canadian Press disclosed that CSIS officials came to Egypt to obtain information on a man from Toronto and that they have probably participated in his torture by Egyptian authorities, according to recently disclosed documents.

Lawyer Montasser El Zayat accuses SSI of torturing defendants in the so called Hezbollah organization to get information and withdraw confessions. El Zayat who is a member of the defense team in front of the emergency state security court said that SSI interrogated the defendants during the late hours of the night, which can affect their statements and stated that the recorded confessions were withdrawn under duress and torture.

El Mahalla prosecution decides to refer child Adham Sameh Fouad to forensic examination after suffering an acute respiratory distress after his detention in Mahalla I police station.

Wadi El Natroun prison administration refuses to refer Mohamed Fathi Mahmud, 63 years, to the Cairo University Hospital for treatment from an acute kidney failure, as evidenced by lab results of the prison hospital. The public attorney of the Fayoum prosecution had ordered the referral of Mahmud to hospital for treatment. Mahmoud is one of 20 members of the MB whose detention was renewed on the 20th of February. 29 of his colleagues threatened to begin a hunger strike if he is not transferred for treatment
23 February
The university guard attacks more than 200 nurses who organized a peaceful protest in front of Tanta university hospital demanding their incentives similar to their counterparts in other university hospitals. The police aggression resulted in the injury of three of them. The protesting nurses were prevented from exiting campus to the surrounding streets by security forces.

SSI broke into the home of lawyer Mostafa Sobhi Ahmed and arrested his two sons, Mohamed (21 years and student in Cairo language academy) and Wahid (19 years and student in Faculty of Lingusitics). Both were taken to SSI headquarters in Almaza. Ahmed has a third son, Amir, 28 years old and computer engineer who was detained four years ago and has received 8 court orders of release but continues to be held by the ministry of interior.

Despite the end of the procedures of release of blogger Ahmed Kamal, he continues to be detained in El Arish II transfer station.
25 February
Military intelligence kidnaps blogger Ahmed Mostafa at 10 a.m. from Kafr El sheikh bus stop on his way to university accusing him of publishing information related to the Egyptian army because of a blog he wrote in February 2009. In the evening the family receives an anonymous phone call claiming to be a lawyer who informed them that Ahmed was referred to military court and that he was questioned by the military prosecution which ordered his detention for 4 days. His whereabouts are unknown.
26 February
Security forces hold parents of students hostage to force them to give themselves up. The students were not home when the police force broke into their homes. Their lawyer filed a complaint with the public prosecutor against their illegal detention as hostages. No warrant was issued regarding their arrest and they have not committed any crime that would justify their arrest and detention. The hostages were not questioned by the prosecution until the filing of the complaint.
26 February
The defendant accused of throwing a bomb at the Jewish synagogue denies committing the crime and accuses the police of torturing him. Forensic medicine department examined the defendant while he was accompanied by two officers and 7 policemen. The defendants said that he was subjected to duress and torture while in state security intelligence.

Mtobus, Kafr El Sheikh police station detains tens of persons with disabilities from noon until the evening without charges. The group of disabled persons had gone to the police station upon information that they will be given special vehicles for transportation.

SSI detains Mostafa Sobhi Ahmed, lawyer, when he went to SSI headquarters in Lazughli, Cairo to protest the detention of his two sons three days ago. Ahmed was carrying a banner saying: Mr. President, my three sons are detained without charge. Release them. He was immediately arrested and was taken to an officer, Hossam who promised to look into the matter of his sons and then released him two hours later.
28 February
"False" release of British citizen Hazem Daoud accused in the Hussein bombing. The ministry of interior detains him again after 5 days without pressing charges. Although the criminal court has ordered the release of Daoud five days ago in view of the lack of evidence of his involvement in the Hussein bombing that resulted in the killing of one French woman and the injury of 24, SSI continues to detain him in its Tanta headquarters. After five days in their custody SSI issued a new detention order based on the provision of the emergency law. No new charges were made since his detention. His lawyer accused SSI of torturing his client in his detention and demanded his examination by forensic authorities. He also strongly criticized the British government and its embassy in Cairo and accused it of complicity with the Egyptian government since it has not made any efforts to ensure that Daoud is released.
28 February
Amnesty International called for the release of Mohamed Farid Farag, 23 years, founder of an association for recitation of the Quran in Qalubeyya. Farag was detained by SSI in November 2007 without charges. While in detention Farag is subject to beatings and deprivation of health care and has never been interrogated or accused. Amnesty said that the Egyptian ministry of interior has ignored 7 release orders and routinely denied the torture allegations. It added that Farag began a hunger strike protesting the treatment he receives. Activist Hossam Bahgat, director of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, said that Farag's family filed a complaint with the public prosecutor on the same day that Egypt was presenting its report at the UNHRC denying the widespread use of torture.
